13 New Albums Out Today: The Black Keys, Kacey Musgraves, Claypool Lennon Delirium & More

The Black Keys shared their 14th album, Peaches!, through Easy Eye Sound/Warner Records. The new album quickly follows guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney’s 2025 album No Rain, No Flowers. Auerbach labeled the 10-track Peaches! as the pair’s “most natural record” since their debut full-length, 2002’s The Big Come Up. Peaches! was recorded with all the musicians in the same room and includes limited use of overdubs. The album is The Black Keys’ first recorded and mixed entirely by Auerbach and Carney since 2006’s Magic Potion.

Kacey Musgraves will release her sixth studio album, Middle Of Nowhere, through Lost Highway. Produced by Musgraves alongside longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, the follow-up to 2024’s Deeper Well finds the Grammy-winning singer and songwriter taking inspiration from her home state and tiny hometown of Golden, Texas. The 13-track project includes collaborations with Willie Nelson, Billy Strings, Miranda Lambert and Gregory Alan Isakov as Musgraves leans in on Texas-country flavor. Musgraves wrote the majority of Middle Of Nowhere as she looked back with post-breakup clarity at the dissolution of a romantic relationship. Musgraves explained, stating:

“The bulk of this record was made during the longest single period of my life, and I found that for the first time, it actually felt incredible being alone and existing in a space not defined by anyone else. I became fascinated with the concept of liminal space, both geographical and emotional. We don’t linger in these transitional, empty spaces long enough and rush to define where or whatever is next.

“I became so at ease with being in the ‘middle of nowhere’ in many senses and sitting in the un-comfort of the undefined. I had a lot of time for creative ambling and leaning into myself in different ways; horses, humor, writing with my early collaborators again, and living out my very simple, inspired life between Texas, Tennessee, and Mexico.”

Les Claypool and Sean Ono Lennon released the third The Claypool Lennon Delirium album, The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy, via ATO Records. The long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s South Of Reality is a 14-song concept album. Sessions for the LP took place at both Claypool’s Rancho Relaxo facility in Sonoma County and at Lennon’s The Farm studio in upstate New York. The album explores mortality and the perils of A.I. within a narrative universe that serves as both a cautionary tale about sustainability and a reflection on the dangers of optimization without empathy.

“The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy is a cautionary tale of what could be in store for humanity if we continue to favor machines over men,” Lennon explained. “It is a tale of a technocracy eclipsed by paperclips; a young man destined to unravel the fabric of his father’s folly, and a sacred feathered Goddess (played by WILLOW), who holds the egg-shaped key to their future.”

“The Great Parrot Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy was over three years in the making and was the most labor intensive recording I have ever been involved in,” added Claypool. “The results are something Shiner and I are very proud of; a relevant concept piece accompanied by a colorful, phantasmic comic book.”

Tori Amos continues her work in music and activism with a new album, In Times of Dragons, out today via Universal/Fontana. The acclaimed singer-songwriter and pianist followed the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for her children’s book, Tori and the Muses, with the In Times of Dragons “is a powerful journey of resilience and awakening where the pursuit of freedom meets forces that seek to control and silence,” as per a press release.

“In Times of Dragons is a metaphorical story about the fight for Democracy over Tyranny,” Amos said, “reflecting the current abhorrent non accidental burning down of democracy in real time by the ‘Dictator believing Lizard Demons’ in their usurpation of America.”

Hiss Golden Messenger — North Carolina-based singer-songwriter MC Taylor — released a new album, I’m People, through Chrysalis Records. Taylor wrote the 12 songs on I’m People in New Mexico, California and North Carolina. The follow-up to 2023’s Jump For Joy was co-produced by Taylor and Josh Kaufman, who also provided various instrumentation. Other contributors include Bruce Hornsby, Marcus King, JT Bates, Cameron Ralston, Amy Helm, Matt Douglas, Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam, I’m With Her’s Sara Watkins, Fruit Bats’ Eric D. Johnson and Dawes’ Griffin Goldsmith and Taylor Goldsmith.

“I wanted the record to feel the way that upstate place feels, deep in the pocket, a place of poetry, earth and sky and mountains,” Taylor said of Dreamland, the former church turned recording facility near Woodstock, New York where the album was made. “A place where a lot of my favorite music has come from.”

Bassist Oteil Burbridge and vocalist Lamar Williams Jr. assembled an impressive cast of musicians in Iceland to record The Offering, out now via Floki Studios. The eight-track album features organist Melvin Seals (of the Jerry Garcia Band), drummer John Morgan Kimock, percussionist Weedie Braimah, pianist/violinist Jason Crosby and guitarists Tom Guarna and Jaden Lehman. The Offering was produced by Soulive co-founder Alan Evans at his Floki Studios on Iceland’s northern coast.

The album’s origins trace back more than a decade to informal writing sessions in Burbridge’s basement, where banjo exercises gradually took shape as songs. “I didn’t have any kind of aim in mind when we wrote these songs,” Burbridge said. “Those exercises ended up turning into songs.” The pair shelved the material for years before finally returning to arrange and record it. “It was mind-blowing that after all those years we came back and got to record this music,” Williams said.

The Nth Power – drummer Nikki Glaspie, guitarist Nick Cassarino and bassist Nate Edgar – released a new studio album, Never Alone, via GroundUP Records. Guests who appear on Never Alone include New Orleans brass band The Soul Rebels, trumpeter Nicholas Payton, saxophonist Skerik and former The Nth Power member, vocalist Courtney Smith. The Nth Power received an invitation from Phish’s Mike Gordon to record Never Alone at a farmhouse studio in Colchester, Vermont. Each member brought demos to the sessions, which resulted in the eight songs making the tracklist.

“Vermont has an energy, there’s something special in the air,” Cassarino stated. “We were there recording late into the early morning hours one night during a lunar eclipse, and it was like the whole atmosphere changed. The creative force and beauty of where we were was just ridiculous.”

Taj Mahal & Phantom Blues Band released a new album, Time, through Resonatin’ Records/Thirty Tigers. The collection follows 2008’s Maestro and finds Mahal joined by his longtime backing band — percussionist Tony Braunagel, bassist Larry Fulcher, keyboardist Jon Cleary, guitarist Johnny Lee Schell and horn players Joe Sublett and Les Lovitt — reuniting over a mix of covers and newly written songs rooted in soul, blues, reggae and Afro-Cuban traditions. At the album’s center is its title track, a previously unreleased Bill Withers composition sourced from an unheard demo and brought to Mahal by producer Steve Berkowitz with the blessing of the Withers family.

“I think it’s important that people get to hear this kind of music at this particular time,” Mahal said. “I’ve always played the music that I want on every album, and what we’re doing, essentially, is showing people that, just because you didn’t hear a song when it came out, does not mean it isn’t good. I’ve spent almost 70 years playing this music. It’s time to listen.”

Singer-songwriter and actress Maya Hawke issued a new album, Maitreya Corso, via Mom + Pop. Hawke gathered a cadre of frequent collaborators to cut Maitreya Corso including her husband, singer-songwriter Christian Lee Hutson, along with multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Lazar Davis, guitarist Will Graefe, violinist Odessa Jorgensen and drummer Michael Riddleberger. Longtime collaborator Jonathan Low handled engineering and production duties.

The follow up to Hawke’s 2024 LP, Chaos Angel, Maitreya Corso is the name of the main character of Maya’s new album who is a “magical misfit, whose sheer inability to adapt to the surrounding world allows her to create a world of her own, and to explore the positive and negative power of the ego,” Hawke stated.

Isaiah Rashad released his third studio album, It’s Been Awful, via Top Dawg Entertainment/Warner Records. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s The House Is Burning finds the Chattanooga, Tennessee-bred rapper joined by guests including SZA, Dominic Fike and . In the album’s liner notes, Rashad shared:

It’s been a beautiful mess getting here. Over the years, I’ve tried on a lot of hats and faces until I found the skin I was comfortable in. This album is a love letter to getting there; going beyond facades and falling in love with what kept me safe (da music) when I needed to pour myself into something for sanity. In doing so, I couldn’t escape my appreciation for you. The listener. The family. The vibers.

From the people who helped put this together to the folks who jam my shit so much y’all basically a street team (might be showing my age with that one), I love y’all. I pray the songs connect on that day you need ’em like my favorite artists’ music would keep me together.

American Football released their fourth self-titled album, American Football (LP4), via Polyvinyl. Produced by Sonny DiPerri and the band, LP4 follows 2019’s LP3 and marks the group’s most sonically ambitious effort to date, featuring piano, vibraphone, synths and trumpet alongside the interlocking guitar work the band is known for. American Football — Mike Kinsella, Nate Kinsella, Steve Holmes and Steve Lamos — recorded the album at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, California, as well as Shirk Studios, Open House Contemporary and Octopus Beak, with DiPerri mixing. Caithlin De Marrais of Rainer Maria, Turnstile’s Brendan Yates, Wisp’s Natalie Lu and Gelsey Bell each contribute guest vocals, while touring members Cory Bracken and Mike Garzon also appear throughout.

“From the instrumentation to the arrangements to Nate running into a microphone and apologizing and us leaving it on the album, I’m really proud of the decisions we made,” Mike Kinsella said. “We’ve gotten nothing but better at writing songs. We worked together way better than we ever had before. This album is a leap of faith, musically, but I’m proud of us for being ambitious enough to try something different.”

Modern Woman released their debut album, Johnny’s Dreamworld, through One Little Independent Records. The London art-rock group grew out of singer-songwriter Sophie Harris’ solo project into a fully-formed band — including David Denyer, Juan Brint-Gutiérrez and Adam Blackhurst. The band and producer Joel Burton put together a nine-track studio effort as the band’s introductory full-length.

“A vital theme I’ve always wanted in Modern Woman is the idea of conflicting things, of the tender/harsh, loud/quiet and scrappy/polished,” Harris stated. “The style of everybody’s playing, drawing from a melting pot of influences, coming together to form something new. I find it interesting to explore the rawer side of femininity that is often hidden; girlhood relationships and the complexities of female fixation and obsession.”

A new recording from the Jerry Garcia Estate, GarciaLive Volume 22: September 25th, 1971, was released today and documents a show at San Anselmo, California’s intimate Lion’s Share with Garcia joined by keyboardist Merl Saunders, drummer Bill Kreutzmann, bassist John Kahn and guitarist Tom Fogerty. Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty’s brother Tom Fogerty had recently left CCR and joined Jerry in a rare two-guitar showing.

GarciaLive Volume 22: September 25th, 1971, captured by Betty Cantor-Jackson and Bob Matthews, boasts most of both the early and late shows although portions of the 1/4″ analog reels were lost to the ravages of time. Read more about the new live release below:

The setlist brims with rarities born from the band members’ restless energy for exploration. Garcia and Saunders stretch the room wide, opening with a ten-minute Saunders original that dissolves into an ethereal instrumental reading of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Garcia’s tender vocal on Blind Lemon Jefferson’s “One Kind Favor” contrasts with romping blues and the rare Jesse Winchester gem “Biloxi,” which while carefully restored unfortunately exhibits some lapses in fidelity due to the effects of time.

The late show carries the same adventurous spirit, moving from the bluesy shuffle of “Hi-Heeled Sneakers” into an expansive “Summertime.” Fogerty steps forward with ’50s R&B fire on “Annie Had a Baby” and “W-P-L-J,” the latter once called by Garcia one of his junior high anthems. The set closer, “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” unfortunately does not survive in Bob and Betty’s recording. Aside from the missing finale and the unavoidable tape wear on “Biloxi,” what remains is an intimate performance in a small Marin County club, now preserved in full color.
