We were so excited for Neil Young and Crazy Horse to tour North America later this summer, but alas the dates have been cancelled. According to a just-released press statement, the injury to guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro’s hand requires additional time to heal.

Young’s upcoming performances at both The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY and the recently renamed Lockn’ Festival (formerly Interlocken) have been cancelled in addition to a pair of dates in Ontario.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes to our fans or the Festivals where we were scheduled to appear,” the band has said in a statement. “As you must be, we too are disappointed at this unfortunate turn of events.”

Here’s the list of cancelled dates:

8/31 Dundas, ON Greenbelt Harvest Picnic
9/02 Port Chester, NY Capitol Theatre
9/04 Ottawa, ON Ottawa Folk Festival
9/07 Arrington, VA Interlocken Music Festival

UPDATE 8/20 8 a.m. PT: According to Neil Young fan site Thrasher’s Wheat, Crazy Horse drummer Ralph Molina shared his take on the situation with the Rusties Facebook group. “Dearest you all…not burned out, nothing going on, other than our guitar player cannot play for another month….crap happens…I can’t see the stones without Keith…believe you me, we are all so terrible sorry…it wasn’t an on purpose thing..we will play again…luv you all…,” wrote Molina. We’re glad to see he’s already thinking about future shows as Frank “Poncho” Sampedro warned Rolling Stone in April that this may be Crazy Horse’s last tour.
