Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats will release their third studio album, The Future, via Stax Records on November 5. The soul singer and his seven-piece backing band unveiled “Survivor,” the LP’s lead single along with a lyric video for the track.
Rateliff focused on solo work including the release of 2020’s And It’s Still Alright after Nathaniel & The Night Sweats issued Tearing At The Seams in 2018. The Colorado-based singer/songwriter reunited with The Night Sweats at Rateliff’s Broken Creek Studio facility outside of Denver to record The Future.

The 11-track LP was produced by Brad Cook and R.M.B. (Nathaniel Rateliff, Patrick Meese and James Barone). Elijah Thompson contributed additional production and The Future includes backing vocals from Jenny Lewis, Jess Wolfe (Lucius) and Amelia Meath. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats consist of Rateliff, Meese, Joseph Pope III, Luke Mossman, Mark Shusterman, Andreas Wild, Daniel Hardaway and Jeff Dazey.
“I look at the album overall as a big question,” explained Rateliff. “When I was writing the record we were in the middle of a pandemic and our future looked pretty bleak. I just continue to try to write from a place of hope. Then my own neurosis, and maybe being a libra gets in the way, and I can’t make up my mind. There is this constant back and forth battle in me personally and I am sure that comes out in my writing.”
