Shoegaze icons My Bloody Valentine last performed before a live audience during their 2013 tour in support of their long-awaited studio album mbv. Mastermind Kevin Shields recently stated he was at work on a follow-up album and now the band has been booked for their first live appearance in over four years.
Shields will bring My Bloody Valentine to Japan’s Sonic Mania festival at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo on August 17. Also slated to appear at the event are Nine Inch Nails and Marshmello.
Shields recently played a solo set at the Norður og Niður music festival in Iceland hosted by Sigur Rós. In an interview last year with Pitchfork, Shields revealed that in addition to preparing all-analog reissues of the band’s 1988 debut album Isn’t Anything and its 1991 landmark follow-up, Loveless, that a new My Bloody Valentine album was coming out in 2018.
