Mumford & Sons pulled into Huntsville, Alabama on Thursday to play their first of two shows at The Orion Amphitheater. Margo Price opened the concert and later joined the English trio for a pair of acoustic covers.

Price gathered with Mumford & Sons — Marcus Mumford, Ted Dwane and Ben Lovett — on their secondary B-stage to end the headliner’s main set. The musicians started their collaboration with a beautiful version of the Townes Van Zandt-penned “If I Needed You.”

Marcus Mumford pointed out that “If I Needed You” was covered by “one of the great Alabamians” Emmylou Harris about the Birmingham native’s 1981 version of the song. Mumford & Sons hadn’t performed “If I Needed You” since 2012 according to Setlist.FM statistics.

The four musicians gathered around a single microphone to perform the Townes Van Zandt classic. Marcus Mumford played guitar and sang the first verse before passing the lead vocal baton to Margo Price. Dwane and Lovett chimed in with spot-on harmonies.

Margo Price stuck around to accompany Mumford & Sons on their set-closing “Wagon Wheel.” Touring member Matt Menefee emerged on banjo to join the threesome and their guest on the tune co-written by Bob Dylan and Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor.

Mumford & Sons mixed material from all five of their studio albums before bringing out Price. The band went on the close the concert, sans guest, with a four-song encore consisting of “42,” “Delta,” “The Wolf” and “I Will Wait.”

Margo Price’s brief time on the road with Mumford & Sons started on Tuesday in Raleigh and ends tonight back at The Orion Amphitheater. She then heads to Portland, Maine for the inaugural Back Cove Music & Arts Festival, while Mumford & Sons embarks on the Railroad Revival tour.
