Mumford & Sons capped their headlining performance at the 2023 New Orleans Jazz Fest with the assistance of several special guests. The band was accompanied by a pair of native NOLA musicians, Jon Batiste and Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, as well as Ghosts Of The Forest’s Celisse Henderson for an encore performance of “House Of The Rising Sun.”
Prior to Sunday’s Jazz Fest set, Mumford & Sons had held only one other proper public performance this year at last month’s Something In The Water Festival. Like that festival set, Celisse was a guest guitarist on several songs, including “Ditmas,” “Believe” and “The Wolf.”
Batiste also came out during Mumford & Sons’ main set, the pianist first joining the band on “Guiding Light” and later returning to play accordion and melodica on “Awake My Soul.”

Mumford & Sons began their Jazz Fest encore by performing “Timshel” quietly around a single microphone. The band members then took their normal places on the stage and were joined by Celisse, Batiste and Trombone Shorty for a rousing take on “House Of The Rising Sun.”
