Mumford & Sons recruited Hozier for the newly shared single, “Rubber Band Man.” The National’s Aaron Dessner contributed production to the collaborative track.

“Rubber Band Man” arrived seven months after Mumford & Sons released their fifth album, Rushmere. The newly shared single was recorded with Dessner, who worked on Mumford & Sons’ 2015 album Wilder Mind, at Long Pond Studios in upstate New York. Hozier’s relationship with Mumford & Sons dates back to sharing festival stages in 2017.

“Rubber Band Man” was recently added to Mumford & Sons’ live setlists. The announcement accompanying the single’s release stated:

“With more songs than they’ve known quite what to do with, the band left the studio door open at Long Pond. Hozier here makes the first meaningful connection of many studio collaborations, and his distinguishable, rich baritone complements Marcus Mumford’s vocal beautifully.”
