Mumford & Sons have revealed details of a new collaborative EP, Johannesburg, recorded with Baaba Maal, Beatenberg and The Very Best, slated for release on June 17. The band, who performed a cover of a Prince song at their show last night, has made available the first single from the new record “There Will Be Time” featuring Maal.
Produced by Mumford & Sons and The Very Best’s Johan Hugo, Johannesburg was recorded during a nonstop two-day session last February at Studio 2 and the Auditorium of the South African Broadcasting Corporation in Johannesburg, South Africa. The collaborative recordings took place while Mumford & Sons were in the country for a run of Gentlemen Of The Road Stopovers in January and February of this year. The five-song EP’s lead track and first single “There Will Be Time” featuring Baaba Maal, along with the album’s trailer can be streamed below:
Last night, Mumford & Sons played a show at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul near Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Joined by guitarist Blake Mills, the band honored The Purple One with a cover of his “Nothing Compares 2 U.” The performance of the song penned by Prince and made famous by Sinéad O’Connor was captured by audience member Brent Hanson and can be viewed in the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay0edC0lOh4
