Multi-Cam Video: Gov’t Mule Honors Eddie Harsch With Black Crowes Cover

It’s hard to believe Gov’t Mule could come up with a way to approach their New Year’s Eve ’15 – ’16 performance in which they covered The Allman Brothers Band, Grateful Dead and The Band with guests at the Beacon Theatre, but they may have just done this last Saturday night at the same NYC venue. Warren Haynes & Co. honored many of the musicians who passed in 2016 as a marathon, guest-filled second set on New Year’s Eve. Multi-cam video of the band’s tribute to Black Crowes keyboardist Eddie Harsch has surfaced.
The 17th song of Gov’t Mule’s instant classic second set on New Year’s Eve was a cover of The Black Crowes’ “Descending.” Perhaps Harsch’s signature song, “Descending” is the final track on The Black Crowes’ 1994 album Amorica. Mule’s Danny Louis did a phenomenal job handling the bright and airy piano parts that Eddie created, while Haynes put his heart and soul into the vocals. While the set featured nearly a dozen guests, Gov’t Mule played “Descending” with just one – percussionist Marc Quinones.
