moe. kicked off a two-night run at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York on Friday. The sextet welcomed guitarist Lyle Brewer of opening act Neighbor to help them close out the first frame with a barn-burner moe. classic.

moe. launched the concert at The Cap with a three-song sequence of “Deep This Time,” “Wormwood” and “Not Coming Down.” The band then broke out “Together At Christmas,” a song written by bassist Rob Derhak appearing on the 2002 holiday album Seasons Greetings from moe.

The group last played “Together at Christmas” nearly five years to the day prior on December 9, 2018 in Nashville. The Cap performance marked the 11th time moe. performed the holiday number since debuting it in 2002, as per Phantasy Tour.

Next came “In Stride,” a tune from newest member keyboardist Nate Wilson’s catalog. moe. then got into some jams beginning with guitarist Al Schnier’s “Rise.” The band then brought out Lyle Brewer for a substantial rendition of the classic “Recreational Chemistry.” Brewer would tear into the vibed-out jam with an extended solo before Schnier took a ride.

Then, both guitarists engaged in a smoking duel which they brought to a rollicking boil. Check out a clip of the standout jam below:

After putting an exclamation point on the first set, the sextet returned to kick off the second frame with another vintage moe. number, Derhak’s “Timmy Tucker,” which saw the band continuing to experiment. After the 25-minute version, the group got into new material with “Tomorrow Is Another Day,” the fifth performance of the Al tune overall.

moe. then went seamless for well-jammed versions of “Silver Sun,” “McBain” and “Brent Black” to seal the second set with new Rob song “Bat Country” in the mix as well. The band returned to encore with “Bearsong” before capping the concert with another Seasons Greeting tune, “We’re a Couple of Misfits” — originally appearing on the beloved 1964 Christmas special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Up next for moe. is their New Year’s Eve run at the Kodak Center in Rochester, New York. Check out the band’s full itinerary below:
