moe. headlined the action on Monday night at The Mexico Incident in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. The one-set performance started late due to a passing storm, but the band came through with a stellar performance featuring guest appearances from guitarist Daniel Donato, The String Cheese Incident percussionist Jason Hann and a waiter at host resort Dreams Sapphire named Alfredo.
The String Cheese Incident played three of the four nights of the all-inclusive concert vacation, leaving moe. to take the main stage on SCI’s night off. Fittingly, moe. kicked off the first-ever concert in Mexico with … “Mexico.” The Al Schnier-penned original used to feature a tag in which bassist Rob Derhak would yell the line “Badges, we don’t need no stinking badges” from Blazing Saddles. moe. brought back the interlude and had Alfredo come out to say “Badges” and then sang a bit of a song in Spanish before the band went on to finish “Mexico” with solos from Schnier and Chuck Garvey.

“Mexico” was followed by keyboardist Nate Wilson's “Yellow Tigers.” moe. then worked “Puebla” into “Silver Sun” before delivering an adventurous “Plane Crash.” The sextet then brought out Donato and Hann for a set-closing cover of “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.”
“Liz Reed” was the second Allman Brothers song Donato played at The Mexico Incident as he joined The String Cheese Incident for “Jessica” the previous night. Daniel Donato is no stranger to sharing the stage with moe. as Cosmic Country opened for the band on their Best.Summer.Ever tour earlier this year. The guitarist sat in with moe. for one song at nearly every show of the run.
