moe. guitarist Chuck Garvey dusted off his saxophone for the band’s debut cover of “The Pink Panther Theme” on Saturday in Buffalo. The quintet unveiled their take on the instrumental composed by Henry Mancini for the 1963 film The Pink Panther during the final show of a three-night run at The Town Ballroom.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the members of moe. brought attention to the annual campaign by sporting pink clothes and performing on pink instruments throughout the hometown run. moe. took it up a notch by premiering “The Pink Panther Theme” in the middle of Saturday’s first set.

The finale in the town where moe. was formed began on Saturday with an “ATL” the band jammed into “Blue Jeans Pizza.” Jim Loughlin‘s “Chromatic Nightmare” came next before guitarist Al Schnier led the band through “Bearsong.” Next came the big surprise as Chuck played sax on a moe. stage for the first time since 2000 for “The Pink Panther Theme.” Garvey showed off his prowess on the sax, the instrument he started on in grade school before turning to guitar. Chuck previously played saxophone during “Time Ed” on March 30, 2000; a “Take The Money And Run” cover on March 31, 2000 and as part of “Bring It Back Home” on April 1, 2000. Additionally, short-lived moe. original “Ghost Of A Child,” which was performed 17 times in 1996, featured Garvey on sax.

moe. closed out Saturday’s first set with a run of fan favorites “Jazz Wank,” “Spine Of A Dog” and “Buster.” Garvey then displayed his otherworldly guitar skills on the “Four” that kicked off the second set on Saturday. From there, the band lit into “Yodelittle.” moe. jammed the classic into “Time Ed” before wrapping up “Yodelittle.” The recently debuted Rob Derhak song “Pill Vacation” ended the frame. moe. concluded the night and run with an encore featuring the fitting “All Roads Lead To Home” and live staple “Captain America.”
