Rarely a headliner, Raphael shared the Brooklyn Bowl stage throughout the evening as various guests accompanied the accomplished sideman. Chris Stapleton’s time on stage included memorable takes on “Georgia On My Mind” and his own “Outlaw State of Mind.”
Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top showcased his signature Southern rock guitar on B.B. King’s “Caledonia” and ZZ Top’s “Gimme All Your Loving.” Another talented guitarist from the South, Jason Isbell delivered a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Pancho and Lefty” with Raphael on accordion.
Margo Price contributed to several songs including a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Miss You” and her recent Billy Strings collab, “Too Stoned To Cry.” Jazz saxophonist Bill Evans appeared on multiple songs throughout the night, notably on Miles Davis‘s “Jean Pierre” and a collaboration with Waylon Payne on “Compared To What.”
The show also featured appearances by T Bone Burnett, who performed a three-song set including “He Came Down,” Shelby Lynne performing “Night Life,” and Amos Lee delivering “El Camino.” Raphael also led a wickedly delightful instrumental version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow.”
The concert closed with all the performers returning to the stage for Willie Nelson’s classic “On The Road Again.” Watch video highlights of last night’s all-star event below:
