Michael McDonald released a cover of the Marvin Gaye classic, “What’s Going On.” The legendary singer-songwriter recorded the song, which arrives on Marvin Gaye's birthday, live with a group of Santa Barbara musicians.
“What’s Going On” appears on Gaye’s 1971 album of the same name. “It’s uncanny and somewhat amazing how great songs or poems relevant to a specific time frame in which they’re written only seem to grow in their profound resonance with the years,” McDonald said in a statement. “‘What’s Going On,’ written by the late, great Marvin Gaye, is one of those.”
