Members Of Drive-By Truckers & Marcus King Band Join Tedeschi Trucks Band At Red Rocks

The 2018 Wheels Of Soul Tour came to a close Sunday evening as Tedeschi Trucks Band played the second of two consecutive headlining shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. The tour finale provided one last opportunity for collaborations between TTB and their tour mates Drive-By Truckers and The Marcus King Band.

“Statesboro Blues” began Tedeschi Trucks Band’s final set of this year’s Wheels Of Soul Tour. Next up were “Get What You Deserve” and “All That I Need,” followed by guitarists Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks sandwiching “Bound for Glory” between Bob Dylan’s “Lord Protect My Child” and “Down In The Flood.”

Tedeschi dedicated “Yield Not To Temptation” to the late Col. Bruce Hampton and welcomed The Derek Trucks Band bassist Todd Smallie to sit-in on the tribute that segued into Bobby “Blue” Bland’s “Turn On Your Love Light.” After a romp through “Laugh About It,” guitarist Marcus King and his band mates, keyboardist Deshawn Alexander, trumpeter Justin Johnson and saxophonist Dean Mitchell came back onstage for Joe Tex’s “Show Me.”

King stuck around for “I Want More” and The Allman Brothers Band instrumental classic “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed.” Mitchell and Alexander returned to accompany a rendition of Roosevelt Sykes’ tender “Night Time Is The Right Time.” Those guests left as DBT guitarists Patterson Hood and Mike Cooley emerged to close out the show and the tour with a blistering cover of Neil Young’s “Rockin In The Free World.”
