Mdou Moctar Streams New Album ‘Ilana (The Creator)’

Mdou Moctar‘s new album, Illan (The Creator), is available to stream via NPR Music’ First Listen series. Sahel Sounds will officially release the new record on March 29.

The Niger-born psychedelic, Tuareg guitarist recorded the LP in Detroit with engineer Chris Kolta and is backed by Ahmoudou Madassane on rhythm guitar, drummer Aboubacar Mazawadje and bassist Michael Coltun. “I don’t know what rock is, I have no idea,” Moctar shared, “I only know how to play my style.”
