Guitarist and producer Matt Sweeney returned with a new episode of his Guitar Moves, which premiered on Tuesday. Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and guitarist Marcus King was the guest for the guitar-centric web series.
Sweeney’s Guitar Moves premiered in 2013 on Vice Media’s music platform Noisey. Matt has done episodes over the years with notable guests including The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, St. Vincent and more.

Marcus King now joins that illustrious list. Sweeney and Marcus captured the latest episode of Guitar Moves at Rick Rubin’s Shangri La studio in Malibu, California. Rubin produced King’s new album, Mood Swings, which arrived on April 5.
The episode of Guitar Moves opens with Marcus playing a snippet of Moods Swings’ “Bipolar Love” on a Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar. With Marcus using a capo, Sweeny noted how he didn’t come to capos until later in his guitar playing.
“Dickey Betts’ son Duane, who’s a dear friend, we had this conversation once and he was like ‘my dad always says this is my capo right here,’” Marcus said while holding up his index finger. “I was like, ‘that sounds like my grandfather.’ Bar chords man, you got to do them.”
The episode sees King sharing riffs and guitar techniques he’s learned along the way. Watch Guitar Moves with Marcus King below:
