Watch Margo Price Take ‘Sweet Revenge’ With John Prine Cover In Chicago

Margo Price brought her tour in support of her excellent new album Strays to Chicago’s Vic Theatre on Tuesday night. Price paid tribute to hometown legend John Prine with a cover performance of his song “Sweet Revenge.”

Prine was born in the Chicago suburb of Maywood and was closely associated with the city’s folk scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s that included the likes of Steve Goodman and others. Goodman appeared on the studio recording of “Sweet Revenge,” which in 1973 served as the title track to Prine’s third studio album.

Price recorded a version of “Sweet Revenge” for Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: Songs Of John Prine, Vol. 2. She previously performed “Sweet Revenge” live in concert around the October 2021 release of the John Prine tribute album.

Singer-songwriter/actor Lola Kirke, who tonight night caps a stint opening for Price, was brought back out to the Vic stage for “Sweet Revenge.” Watch an audience-shot video clip of the enthusiastic cover below:
