Marcus King brought The Marcus King Band to Howard Stern’s studios at the SiriusXM headquarters in New York City to record a special for the Stern Show. The MKB honored their Southern Rock legacy by covering The Allman Brothers Band 1973 smash “Ramblin’ Man” during the session and video of the performance can be viewed below.

Dickey Betts wrote “Ramblin’ Man” for inclusion on the 1973 ABB album Brothers & Sisters. The song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, the legendary band’s highest charting entry and only Top 10 hit.

Marcus King and The MKB started performing “Ramblin’ Man” this past summer in the wake of Dickey Betts' death. The Greenville, South Carolina native wrote the following tribute to Betts on social media shortly after Dickey died:

I was 11 years old when my father took me to see Dickey Betts at the HandleBar in Greenville SC, Three guitarists on stage ( one of who would become a dear friend later in life friend Duane Betts) two drummers, Hammond organ and stacks of Marshall cabinets cranked up real damn loud – I saw and heard my future that night. From that moment onward I knew I wouldn’t settle for any less – I wanted a big band of brothers beside me – sharing moments on and off the stage. Dickey was gracious enough after the show to sign my copy of “The Allman Brothers Band” their first studio record from 1969 he and my dad talked about Love Valley a festival my Father attended in 1970 where the brothers played a legendary performance – Dickey has always been one of my greatest influences – The instrumental piece “In memory Of Elizabeth Reed has long been one of our go to choices when having friends or family join us on the stage – it’s a tremendous vehicle for improvisational transcendentalism, and an exemplary example of a band playing together and loving together IN the moment and all for the RIGHT reason. You can walk into a session on music Row or anywhere else music is being made and tell the guitar player to “give it that Dickey Betts thing” and he’ll know precisely what you mean..
