Luther Dickinson & Wood Brothers Guest With Tedeschi Trucks Band In Nashville

The Tedeschi Trucks Band closed out a three-night stand at The Ryman in Nashville with help from guitarist Luther Dickinson and members of The Wood Brothers on Saturday night.

Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks led their group through Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Splinters” to open a first set that also included covers of Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On A Wire,” Jimmy Cliff’s “Sitting In Limbo” and Little Milton’s “More & More.” The TTB also fit in originals “Let Me Get By,” “Laugh About It,” “Shame” and “Midnight In Harlem” ahead of a set-closing rendition of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’,” which they last played on July 17, 2016.

Saturday’s second set began with the 2019 debut of “They Don’t Shine” from the TTB’s forthcoming Signs LP. “Do I Look Worried” was then followed by a version of Derek & The Dominos’ “Anyday” featuring a “Blue Sky” jam. Next came the Tedeschi-led pairing of “Angel From Montgomery” and “Sugaree.” Then, Dickinson emerged for Allen Toussaint’s “Get Out Of My Life, Woman” and “Joyful Noise” from Derek’s Derek Trucks Band days. After closing out the frame with “How Blue Can You Get?” and “The Storm,” the TTB was joined by The Wood Brothers for a take on The Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Virginia” to start the encore. The night concluded with Sly & The Family Stone’s “Sing A Simple Song” and “I Want To Take You Higher.”
