Low Cut Connie Announces Covers Album ‘Tough Cookies: The Best of The Quarantine Broadcasts’
Low Cut Connie (Adam Weiner) will release Tough Cookies: The Best Of The Quarantine Broadcasts on CD, vinyl and digital services on May 19. The audio compilation features 23 of the 500+ covers Weiner has played with guitarist Will Donnelly during Tough Cookies, a twice-weekly livestream series originating from Adam’s home in South Philadelphia.
The series, which celebrates its one-year anniversary this month, came in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Two weeks into quarantine, we ‘went live’ in my spare bedroom in South Philly to cheer up our fans. There was no script, no plan, just a couple schmucks trying every form of entertainment to try to lift people’s spirits,” noted Weiner. “Now a year later, we’re still going strong and have covered over 500 songs for viewers in over 40 countries. It’s been amazing watching the project grow and I wanted to put the record out as a document of this insane time we all shared. It was all done on cell phones but the spirit of the matter cuts through.”
Low Cut Connie’s Tough Cookies series has included interviews with Tune-Yards, Swamp Dogg, Richard Hell, Darlene Love and many other notable personalities. Tough Cookies: The Best Of The Quarantine Broadcasts is the follow-up to the October 2020 double album Private Lives.
The latest installment of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’s #PlayAtHome video series features Low Cut Connie’s performance of Private Lives track “Help Me.” Weiner was joined by Donnelly, drummer Marlon Lewis Jr., percussionist Jarae Lewis, bassist Ray Bernard and vocalists Kia Warren and Liza Colby at Arden Gild Hall in Wilmington, Delaware to film the “Help Me” performance.
