Little Feat wrapped a two-night stand at the Warner Theatre in Washington D.C. — one of the sites where the band captured their landmark 1978 live album, Waiting for Columbus — on Saturday with Duane Betts & Palmetto Motel. The highly-influential group welcomed guitarist Duane Betts for a performance of the Allman Brothers Band classic “Southbound.”

“Southbound” was penned by Duane’s father and ABB co-founding guitarist Dickey Betts, who passed away on April 18, 2024. Little Feat slotted the Brothers and Sisters cut into the 14th song slot in D.C.

Feat guitarist Scott Sharrard handled lead vocals at the beginning of the song and ripped through a slide solo. Duane then took over and channeled his dad on a smokin’ run and sang the final verse. Watch a clip of Duane’s solo and check out the full performance below:

Little Feat — co-founding member keyboardist Bill Payne, longtime members bassist Kenny Gradney, percussionist Sam Clayton and multi-instrumentalist Fred Tackett along with Sharrard and drummer Tony Leone as well as a horn section — launched the concert with “Fat Man In The Bathtub.”

Additional Lowell George era favorites performed included “All That You Dream,” “Spanish Moon,” “Time Loves A Hero,” “Sailin’ Shoes” and “Willin.”

Feat also offered the George/Tackett co-write “Honest Man,” which appeared on the founding Little Feat guitarist’s 1979 solo album, Thanks, I’ll Eat It Here. George was on tour around the record when he sadly died on June 15, 1979 near Washington D.C.

Little Feat also dipped into their post-George discography including “Hate To Lose Your Lovin’” (Let It Roll 1988) and “Texas Twister” (Representing the Mambo 1990). Following the Betts sit-in, Feat delivered a trio of classics: “Dixie Chicken,” “Teenage Nervous Breakdown” and closer “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now.”

Little Feat and Duane Betts & Palmetto Hotel will perform in Wheeling, West Virginia tonight (October 22). Find their complete itinerary with ticket info below:
