Watch Little Feat Welcome Dirty Dozen Brass Band For Raucous ‘Spanish Moon’ In San Francisco
By Scott Bernstein Aug 2, 2023 • 12:13 pm PDT

On Saturday, Little Feat settled in at The Warfield in San Francisco as part of their Boogie Your Summer Away tour. The acclaimed classic rock act was joined by special guest Miko Marks for three songs during a concert that also saw openers Dirty Dozen Brass Band add to a memorable version of “Spanish Moon” early in the night.
The Boogie Your Summer Away tour features Little Feat teaming with acts such as Leftover Salmon, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley at venues throughout the U.S. After devoting 2022 to performing material from their iconic Waiting For Columbus live album, the repertoire has been expanded this summer to include a number of songs written and recorded since the band reformed in 1987 following an eight-year breakup initiated by Lowell George months before his tragic death in 1979.

Saturday’s show was a 19-song affair. Little Feat opened their set with a series of beloved favorites including “Easy To Slip,” “Fat Man In The Bathtub” and “Oh Atlanta.” Then, the headliners were augmented by members of the New Orleans-based brass band Dirty Dozen Brass Band on “Spanish Moon.” Guitarist Scott Sharrard handled the lead vocals originally sung by Lowell George with Fred Tackett delivering a spicy guitar solo.
The Dirty Dozen Brass Band recreated Tower of Power’s horn lines found on Little Feat’s 1974 studio album Feats Don’t Fail Me Now. Trevarri Huff-Boone threw down a powerful tenor sax solo before Sharrard took a run at “Spanish Moon.”

Frequent Little Feat collaborator singeer/songwriter Miko Marks emerged following a handful of deep cuts to help sing “Sailin’ Shoes” and “Willin’.” The band then went it alone for “Time Loves A Hero,” an extended “Dixie Chicken” and more before Marks returned for the “Feats Don’t Fail Me Now” finale.
