GarciaLive Volume Nine: August 11th, 1974 – Keystone Berkeley is due July 28 via Round Records/ATO Records. The upcoming installment of the long running Jerry Garcia live archival series features an official recording of a previously uncirculated show at the famed Keystone in Berkeley from 1974. Included among the many covers on the two-CD release is a fantastic instrumental rendition of “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I Got)” which can be streamed below.
The lineup for the show finds Garcia joined by longtime collaborator Merl Saunders on keys as well as Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, multi-instrumentalist Martin Fierro and bassist John Kahn. GarciaLive Volume Nine contains covers of The Band’s “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come,” Thigpen/Marion/Banks’ “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” and more as well as a take on Fierro’s “La La.”
The Four Tops released the original “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I Got)” in 1972. Garcia and Saunders started covering the tune just a few years later. The 17-minute version features solos from Merl and Martin as well as a beautiful one from Jerry.
