Lake Street Dive shared video featuring their cover of “Thank You For Being A Friend,” the theme from NBC sitcom The Golden Girls. The footage comes from LSD’s November 2020 Lounge Around Sounds Variety Hour livestream series.

Released by Lake Street Dive in honor of Golden Girls co-star Betty White, who died on New Year’s Eve at age 99, the song was originally written and recorded by Andrew Gold. While Gold issued “Thank You For Being A Friend” on his 1978 album, All This And Heaven Too, Cynthia Fee covered the tune for use as The Golden Girls theme song.

Lake Street Dive’s version was filmed in multi-instrumentalist Akie Bermiss’ childhood living room. Bermiss and Rachael Price shared lead vocal duties on “Thank You For Being A Friend.” Akie, Rachael, bassist Bridget Kearney and drummer Mike Calabrese performed the full song while just a brief portion of Fee’s cover appeared at the start of each Golden Girls episode during the show’s 1985 – 1992 run.
