Kitchen Dwellers set up camp last weekend at The Charleston Pour House for a three-night run. The Montana-based string band brought out Perpetual Groove frontman Brock Butler for a two-song collaboration early in the second set of their Charleston finale.
Brock Butler sang and played electric guitar on a pair of Perpetual Groove staples from the band’s acclaimed 2003 album, Sweet Oblivious Antidote. Up first was “Three Weeks,” a song Kitchen Dwellers has covered on occasion for the past eight years. Kitchen Dwellers banjoist Torrin Daniels traded verses with Butler on the extended version of “Three Weeks.”
Butler stayed out for a memorable version of “TSMM.” The guitarist swapped effusive leads with Daniels and mandolin player throughout to the delight of the crowd.
Earlier in the night, Kitchen Dwellers kicked off their first of two sets with an adventurous “Ghost In The Bottle” that encompassed “Meagher’s Reel” and “Waterford Son.” The jamgrass quartet closed out the opening stanza by digging in on fan favorite “Woods Lake.”
Brock Butler’s appearance was preceded by “Covered Bridges” and was followed by a well-jammed “Mountain” that was left unfinished. Kitchen Dwellers wound up finishing the song to end the concert and their visit to Charleston.
