King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Announce Official Release Date For New Album ‘Alien Metal’

It’s official, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will release their 28th studio album, Alien Metal, tomorrow (Friday, August 14), through their p(doom) Records. The LP arrives the same day the Melbourne, Australia-based band kicks off the second edition of their Field of Vision festival in Colorado.

King Gizzard also revealed they’ll livestream 45 hours worth of Field Of Vision direct from Colorado. Tune in via the band’s YouTube channel all weekend long from Friday, August 14 through Sunday, August 16 to watch the action unfold for free.

Recorded on King Gizzard’s modular synth setup named Nathan, Alien Metal was an odyssey for the band, as KGLW’s Stu Mackenzie noted.

“We’ve never scrapped so much material as we have for this album. Entire albums, entire universes that were formulated, created, recorded, deleted and started again.”

Self-proclaimed King Gizz “techno head” and guitarist Joey Walker added: “Alien Metal goes really hard, but it also goes to really interesting places. And it feels unique – it feels like us, still.”

King Gizzard heralded Alien Metal with a trio of singles, “Level 5,” the title track and “Kill For The Steel.” KGLW has experimented with electronic sounds previously, beginning in earnest on their 2021 album Butterfly 3000 before the band dove further in on 2023’s The Silver Cord. Gizz also delivered their landmark 2025 Fall European Tour playing “rave shows” on Nathan for the full run.

“It completely rewired my brain,” Mackenzie noted on using the Eurorack synthesizer. “I was like, ‘I’m going to forget everything I know about music and relearn it all from scratch.'”

Alien Metal is King Gizzard’s deepest and darkest exploration of EDM yet, with the six-piece delving into techno, hardcore, house and jungle influences.
