Kendrick Lamar took over Caesars Superdome in New Orleans with a thrilling halftime show during Super Bowl LIX. SZA joined Lamar during the performance that also featured appearances by Samuel L. Jackson, Serena Williams and DJ Mustard.

Jackson was dressed as Uncle Sam and served as the emcee of the halftime show, appearing several times during the performance.

Lamar began his set with “Bodies,” and unreleased song used in previews for his 2024 album, GNX. The rapper from Compton, California transitioned into the GNX track “squabble up.”

“The revolution is about to be televised,” Lamar told the audience. “You picked the right time, but the wrong guy.”

Lamar’s medley continued with back-to-back selections from his 2017 Pulitzer Prize-winning album, DAMN., “HUMBLE.” and “DNA.” Dancers accompanying Lamar were dressed in red, white and blue outfits and formed an American flag around him.

The show progressed with the 2024 single, “Euphoria,” followed by GNX tracks “man at the garden” and “peekaboo,” that latter containing a tease of “Not Like Us,” and Lamar saying “I want to perform their favorite song, but you know they love to sue,” referencing the lawsuit Drake brought against Lamar’s label targeted at the Grammy-winning song.

Another GNX song, “luther,” saw SZA emerge to perform her feature from the album. SZA remained for a performance of “All the Stars,” her collaboration with Lamar from the Black Panther soundtrack. Lamar and SZA will soon embark on their joint Grand National Tour, a 21-city stadium tour beginning in April.

A shortened version of “Not Like Us” was then performed by Lamar. The Drake diss track recently won Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year Grammy Awards. Tennis superstar Serena Williams crip walk danced on the field with the other dancers as “Not Like Us” was performed. DJ Mustard stood by Lamar for the performance’s finale, “tv off,” which appeared on GNX.

The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIX. New Orleans native Jon Batiste sang the National Anthem before the NFL championship game. Fellow local musicians, Trombone Shorty, Ledisi and Lauren Daigle also performed as part of the pregame festivities.
