Charlottesville, Virginia rockers Kendall Street Company shared a new single, “Snow Day,” featuring Leftover Salmon banjo player Andy Thorn. The new song was written by the members of Kendall Street Company and Dan Davis.

“Snow Day” follows KSC’s Fall 2023 album, Separation95, which included a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Eyes of the World” along with originals “Excusezmoi,” “Tight Rope” and more. The band recorded their new single at White Star Studio in Louisa, Virginia last August.

The bluegrass-tinged single “Snow Day” features Thorn’s deft use of both twang and melody on the banjo. The subject matter sees KSC lead singer Louis Smith telling the tale of snow that never comes.

“Growing up in Virginia Beach, it rarely ever snowed, even when the forecast called for it,” Smith said. “’Snow Day’ is about when the weather people call for snow, but the snow does not come! Luckily, your good friend and neighbor, Tony, decides to throw a snow day party anyways. You know why? Because everybody needs a snow day!”
