Kelsey Waldon confirmed a new album, No Regular Dog, due out via John Prine co-founded label Oh Boy Records on August 12. The singer-songwriter also previewed the LP with the single “Sweet Little Girl.”
No Regular Dog follows Waldon’s 2019 Oh Boy debut White Noise/White Lines. Renowned musician and producer Shooter Jennings (Brandi Carlile, Tanya Tucker) helmed the new album, recorded at Dave’s Room Studio in Los Angeles.

Jennings played keyboards on the record along with contributions from Waldon’s touring band including drummer Nate Felty, bassist Alec Newnam and pedal steel player Brett Resnick. The LP also features special guests dobroist/guitarist Doug Pettibone, fiddler Aubrey Richmond and vocalists Kyshona Armstrong, Mickie Conley, Maureen Murphy and Kristen Rogers.
On No Regular Dog, Waldon stated:
I hope that these songs are able to live with people and help make the world a little better, because I think that’s a big part of what my job is. At the end of the day, I’m so thankful for my passion for music because it’s sustained me throughout my whole life, and now I want it to do the same for other people. And if anyone’s struggling, I hope they can recognize the ‘No Regular Dog’ within themselves, and start to see how much they’re really worth.
“Kelsey Waldon is a top shelf artist who feels a deep responsibility to country music, the preservation of its history, and the quality of its future,” Jennings added. “I would say country music is in good hands.”
The album’s 11-tracks include “Season’s Ending,” a tribute to Waldon’s late mentor John Prine, along with “Simple as Love,” the first love song Kelsey has written. Kelsey also commented on the album’s second track and lead single.
“‘Sweet Little Girl’ is in part about me, but perhaps it’s also about you,” she said. “It’s about the rage and unrest inside during a process to find healing. It’s simply just about a gal who is trying to find her way back ‘home.’”
