Bassist Karina Rykman shared a tour of her rig. JamBase contributor Ryan Storm captured the video ahead of Karina’s recent opening spot for The Disco Biscuits in Buffalo, New York.
Rykman begins her Rig Tour by noting she is playing through tDB bassist Marc Brownstein’s Aguilar bass amplifier. She then gives a tour of her pedalboard including Deep and Future Impact units. She also notes that her Octave pedal is her most used and stands by her Rat distortion pedal. “People think I’m fucking crazy, and I am,” Karina said. “That’s why I continue to use the Rat for my distortion needs.”
Karina also detailed her custom bass made by Zeke Guitars. The Pennsylvania-based luthier has also made instruments for Dean Ween and Dave Dreiwitz of Ween. Karina noted that the style is based on a 1978 Fender Precision Bass and also shares a tip she learned from Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee.
