John Prine, Sturgill Simpson & Amanda Shires Among 2017 Americana Honors & Awards Winners

Last night the Americana Music Association held the 2017 Americana Honors & Awards show at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. John Prine, Sturgill Simpson and Amanda Shires were among this year’s winning musicians.

Prine was named Artist Of The Year while Simpson, who led with three nominations, earned Album Of The Year honors for A Sailor’s Guide To Earth. The Emerging Artist Of The Year went to Shires and Rodney Crowell’s “It Ain’t Over Yet” featuring Rosanne Cash and John Paul White was named Song Of The Year.

The Spirit of Americana/Free Speech in Music Award was bestowed upon Graham Nash. The Lifetime Achievement Award, Trailblazer was given to Iris Dement and the Lifetime Achievement Award, Performance was given to Van Morrison. The evening saw Robert Cray honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Performance and the Hi Rhythm Section honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Instrumentalist. HighTone Records founders Larry Sloven and Bruce Bromberg were also presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, Executive.
