John Prine & Danny Clinch Join Jason Isbell In Nashville
By Andy Kahn Oct 27, 2015 • 9:10 am PDT

Jason Isbell wrapped up a four-night sold-out stand at The Ryman Auditorium Monday evening. The guitarist welcomed famed singer-songwriter John Prine to the stage as well as renowned photographer/director (and harmonica player) Danny Clinch.
Like Sunday night’s performance, last evening was webcast via TourGigs and both streams were directed by Clinch. After a set that mixed Isbell’s solo work – including several cuts from his recently issued Something More Than Free which he played in its entirety the night before – with songs written during his stint with Drive-By Truckers, Clinch emerged at the tail end of the set to add harmonica to a cover of Little Walter’s “My Babe.” Clinch stuck around as they segued into “Palmetto Rose” from the aforementioned new LP before giving way to Isbell and The 400 Unit to close out the set with a take on “Children of Children” that allowed Isbell to show off his deft slide guitar ability.

When Isbell and his wife and fiddle player Amanda Shires returned to the stage for the encore they were joined by legendary singer-songwriter John Prine for a performance of his song “Storm Windows.” Introduced as his “hero,” Isbell shared verses with Prine on the title track to his 1980 album. Isbell brought back the band and concluded the show with “Super 8” from his album Southeastern followed by a rousing “Codine.”
Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit play next at Potter County Memorial Stadium in Amarillo, Texas on Thursday, October 29.
