John Oates Welcomes Bob Weir & Jason Crosby At Sweetwater Music Hall

By Scott Bernstein Sep 28, 2018 2:20 pm PDT

Iconic guitarist John Oates returned to Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California on Thursday night and teamed with one of the venue’s proprietors for a few songs. Bob Weir joined Oates for three songs in the middle of the show shortly after multi-instrumentalist Jason Crosby sat-in.

The John Oates/Bob Weir musical relationship dates back 30 years as Hall & Oates were among the Grateful Dead’s guests at a Rainforest Benefit held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on September 24, 1988. Weir and Crosby also sat-in with John Oates during his February 2015 gig at Sweetwater.

As per Jambands.com, last night’s concert saw Crosby emerge towards the beginning of the evening for the title track from John’s recent Arkansas album as well as “All I Am” and “Lose It In Louisiana.” Then, Bobby took the stage with Oates for a pair of Grateful Dead classics: “Friend Of The Devil” and “West L.A. Fadeaway.” Weir also stuck around for a cover of The Temptations’ “Shakey Ground.”
