John Mayer Trio Performs ‘Bold As Love’ In Montreal

By Scott Bernstein Apr 3, 2017 1:47 pm PDT

Guitarist John Mayer continued his The Search For Everything Tour on Saturday night at Centre Bell in Montreal. Mayer switched up most of the setlist as just seven of the 20 songs performed were repeats from opening night in Albany. Included among the tour debuts was a cover of “Bold As Love” by Jimi Hendrix.

John kicked off the show in Montreal with a handful of full band selections before offering a sequence of acoustic arrangements including the live debut of “Emoji Of A Wave.” Saturday’s John Mayer Trio portion of show started with “Crossroads” ahead of “Bold As Love” and the original “Who Did You Think I Was.” Next, the full band returned for five more songs to end the main set. Mayer brought the concert to a close with a first encore of “Something Like Olivia” and “I’m Gonna Find Another You” followed by a second encore of “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me.”

Mayer recorded a studio version of “Bold As Love” for his 2006 album Continuum and a live version can be found on the 2008 video album Where The Light Is: John Mayer Live In Los Angeles. The John Mayer Trio finds the guitarist joined by drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino. Mayer last performed “Bold As Love” in 2008 as per Setlist.FM.
