John Mayer In Studio With Trio Members
Back in September we reported that John Mayer had revealed in a tweet upcoming plans to go “back in the studio with the Continuum crew in January.” The Continuum crew would be drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino who make up the John Mayer Trio that recorded and released the Trio’s live album Try! in 2005.
Another new social media update from Mayer indicates he’s followed up on his September tweet, sharing a photo on Instagram (shown below) with Palladino and Jordan captioned, “In the studio, day one.”
Mayer’s recently been active with Dead & Company and hinted on New Year’s Eve that the band featuring Grateful Dead members might have more shows coming later this year. Palladino’s been performing live with The Who and appeared prominently on D’Angelo’s critically acclaimed album Black Messiah, while Jordan notably contributed to Keith Richard’s 2015 solo album Crosseyed Heart.
The John Mayer Trio first toured together in 2005 and has gotten together for performances several times in the years since. In early 2014 Mayer reunited the trio for an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers for a performance of “After Midnight” that included keyboardist Chick Corea, percussionist Manolo Badrena and trumpeter Wallace Roney. Around that same time Mayer tweeted he was in the studio with Jordan, Palladino and Corea, “playing some wide open stuff.”
