When guitarist John Mayer was recruited to join Dead & Company he decided to stop work on seventh studio album to focus on the Dead-related project. Mayer took to Twitter this weekend to confirm he’ll go back to the studio in January after Dead & Company’s New Year’s run to continue work on the LP.

Mayer mentioned he’ll head back into the studio with the Continuum crew in January, in reference to his 2006 album. The guitarist recorded the critically- acclaimed and commercially successful Continuum with legendary bassist Pino Palladino (The Who) and drummer Steve Jordan (Keith Richards, Eric Clapton). Mayer formed the John Mayer Trio with Palladino and Jordan and the group went on to tour and release a live album. John mentioned the trio would be returning in an interview early last year and did reunite the group for a performance of “After Midnight” on Late Night With Seth Meyers shortly thereafter.

Dead & Company kick off their debut tour on October 29 in Albany.
