John Mayer Says Dead & Company To Return In 2016

One of the biggest stories in our neck of the woods last year was the emergence of Dead & Company. Grateful Dead members Bill Kreutzmann, Bob Weir and Mickey Hart recruited guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti to form the band which went on a commercially and critically successful Fall Tour and completed the year with a four-show New Year’s Run. Mayer and his mates shined once again on December 30 and 31 at The Forum in Los Angeles, where the guitarist announced the band would return in 2016.

As per Billboard’s report, Mayer told the crowd, “At the risk of rocking any boats — known and unknown — we’ll see you next year” at the end of D&C’s three-set New Year’s Eve performance which is in line with many rumors circulating about the band’s activities in 2016. Dead & Company’s New Year’s Eve show was chock full of fan-favorite Dead songs such as “Terrapin Station,” “Dark Star,” “Sugar Magnolia” and “Uncle John’s Band.” A few covers were in order including “Dear Prudence” and the fitting “In The Midnight Hour.” The group celebrated the end of 2015 and start of the New Year by having a joint ridden by Trixie Garcia and Dead rep Bernie Cahill paraded over the crowd, while Bill Walton served as Father Time as the theme to Star Wars played. Billboard adds Walton kept the Star Wars theme going by brandishing a light saber.
