Jimmy Fallon & The Roots Celebrate Remastered Release Of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’

Last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon featured a segment in which the host Jimmy Fallon and house band The Roots celebrated the remastered and expanded editions of Purple Rain. The newly packaged versions of the outstanding record originally released by Prince in 1984 were issued by Warner Bros. Records today.

The pair of reissues – Purple Rain Deluxe and Purple Rain Deluxe – Expanded – include the official 2015 Paisley Park Remaster from the album’s original tapes overseen by Prince prior to his death. The latter edition also comes with a collection of singles edits and b-sides, featuring six tracks that according to a statement, “have never been released or distributed in the collector or bootleg community.”

Captain Kirk Douglas led The Roots through the “Purple Rain” guitar solo ahead of Fallon taking time to review the album and reissues with drummer Questlove. Watch the Tonight Show segment and stream the expanded edition of Purple Rain below:
