The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is known for releasing videos featuring stars teaming up with host Jimmy Fallon and house band The Roots on unconventional instruments to play popular songs. Recently the show shared a video in which Fallon, The Roots, Sia and Natalie Portman perform “Iko Iko” utlizing spoons, blocks, a plastic paint bucket, cups, a deck and cards and more.
In 1953 New Orleans band Sugar Boy and his Cane Cutters wrote and recorded the song we know as “Iko Iko” under the title “Jock-A-Mo.” Twelve years later The Dixie Cups scored a hit with their cover of “Iko Iko” and ever since a variety of artists have covered the song including Dr. John, Natasha England, The Belle Stars, The Neville Brothers, Cyndi Lauper and the Grateful Dead. Watch the wild version of “Iko” performed by Fallon, Sia, The Roots and Portman:
