The latest installment of the Inside Out With Turner & Seth podcast features an interview with moe. percussionist Jim Loughlin. Jim talks about Rob Derhak’s health and the band’s future as part of the chat.

Hosts Rob Turner and Seth Weiner chatted with Jim during setbreak of Umphrey’s recent show in Atlanta, where Loughlin sat-in with his old friends. The conversation gets serious around the six-minute mark, when Loughlin reveals how he found out about moe. bassist Rob Derhak’s cancer diagnosis. Jim shared that Rob’s “prognosis is excellent” but warned Derhak “has a tough road ahead of him.”

The percussionist talked about Rob’s great attitude as he starts his battle and how well the band’s two most recent shows went. Jim spoke about moe.’s upcoming set with Phil Lesh at this weekend’s Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, Virginia. Loughlin said the band sent Lesh a setlist and were waiting for a response from the Grateful Dead bassist. moe. will meet up with Phil on Saturday and rehearse all day.

Jim also revealed moe. hopes to return to the road around New Year’s. Derhak’s treatment lasts seven weeks and then it’s just a matter of Rob’s voice coming back. Loughlin would be happy to sing more as Rob gets his voice back. Listen to the latest episode of Inside Out With Turner & Seth:
