Listen To Rare Jerry Garcia & Sanjay Mishra Recordings ‘Front Street Outtakes’

Studio outtakes from a 1994 recording session featuring Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia and guitarist-composer Sanjay Mishra have been released by the Jerry Garcia Music Arts imprint as Front Street Outtakes. The three-track collection consists of songs laid down during the sessions that yielded Mishra and Garcia’s 1995 album Blue Incantation.

Mishra and Garcia gathered at the Grateful Dead’s famed Club Front Studios in San Rafael, California to work on what would become one of Jerry’s final full album projects before his tragic death in 1995. Sanjay noted the material on Front Street Outtakes is “unique and mysterious” and went on to add, “these mixes consist of the recordings in pure form, with just the guitars and percussion, all unedited, including the tape reel running out on the first track.”

Grammy-winning audio engineer David Glassner mastered Front Street Outtakes. Jerry Garcia Music Arts will contribute 25% of the label’s revenue share from digital streams of the collection to Self-Realization Fellowship, a worldwide spiritual organization founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda.

“It is an honor to support Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings with my late husband’s music,” said Jerry Garcia Music Arts’ Manasha Garcia. “There’s an interesting circularity to this project, as my grandfather gave me his copy of ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ to read when I was a teenager. Later, when I began singing in the Self-Realization Fellowship choir, Jerry would listen to the choral practice tapes and play guitar to help me follow the sheet music for the holiday recitals.”
