Jennifer Hartswick Appears On Maggie Rose’s ‘Salute The Songbird’ Podcast
Maggie Rose welcomed Jennifer Hartswick as the guest on the second episode of her Osiris Media podcast, Salute The Songbird With Maggie Rose. Hartswick discusses her unbringing, history with Trey Anastasio, participation in the guitarist’s “The Beacon Jams” livestream concerts and more with Rose.
Rose reveals that while she has shared the bill with Jennifer at a number of festivals, the pair hit it off when they participated in Marcus King's 2020 tribute to The Last Waltz. Jennifer speaks about growing up in a musical family and notes she tried a handful of different instruments before settling in on trumpet.
Hartswick recalls how she met Trey Anastasio and that she received a call to join the Trey Anastasio Band on the same day she quit college. The trumpeter/vocalist shares appreciation for the support her family has given her over the years. Jennifer then shares her experience during the pandemic and how grateful she was to get to spend time at home.
It wasn’t until Jennifer turned 25 that she started to sing professionally. “The practicality of being able to sing opens up the amount of gigs that you can play, because people aren’t hiring me now just as a trumpet player,” Hartswick says of “doubling her workload.” The two Nashville-based musicians go on to discuss “The Beacon Jams” with Jennifer talking about all the rehearsal that went into each show. She reveals how Jo Lampert was brought into the Ghosts Of The Forest night of the run and the “Phishapalooza” performance that followed the next week.
Another topic hit upon was Hartswick’s most recent album, Nexus. Jennifer also shares the story behind Trey Anastasio & Christian McBride's surprise guest appearance at a 2018 show with Nick Cassarino at Rockwood Music Hall in New York City.
