Yo La Tengo’s Hanukkah run in New York City continued with a performance on Sunday night. Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy and his son Spencer Tweedy performed an opening Tweedy set and were guests with the headliners from Hoboken for the sixth of eight straight holiday shows being held at the Bowery Ballroom.
Comedian Eugene Mirman was also on Sunday’s bill as support. The opening Tweedy set featured performances of such favorites as “Passenger Side,” “Pecan Pie,” “Locator,” “Via Chicago,” “Casino Queen” and “New Madrid.”
The elder Tweedy played guitar and bass at various spots, while Spencer contributed drums during the headliners’ set. Jeff sang lead on a rendition of Wilco’s “If Ever I Was A Child” from last year’s Schmilco album, as well as a cover of Bob Dylan’s “My Back Pages.”
The Tweedys joined Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew on a set-opening cover of The Beatles’ “Eight Days A Week.” They also supplemented takes on YLT’s “Little Eyes,” “Did I Tell You,” “When It’s Dark” and others. The encore saw comedian Todd Barry sit-in on drums on a cover of “Jeepster” by T-Rex and Jeff leading a cover of The Cars’ “Just What I Needed.” Watch a few audience-shot video clips of Sunday’s show below:
