Jeff Tweedy kept his city-specific cover streak going in San Francisco on Wednesday, weaving local rock history into the first of two solo nights at The Fillmore. Continuing the tour-long tradition of honoring each stop with specially chosen songs, the Wilco frontman tipped his cap to the Bay Area by leading his band through spirited takes on Creedence Clearwater Revival and Sly & The Family Stone classics.
Tweedy has frequently delegated lead vocal duties on his tour’s city-specific covers to members of his band. Jeff handed the first verse of Sly & The Family Stone’s “Everyday People” before handing off the vocal baton to sons Spencer and Sammy Tweedy as well as bassist Sima Cunningham, guitarist Liam Kazar and keyboardist Macie Stewart throughout the remainder of the song.
Written by frontman Sly Stone, “Everyday People” was released by Sly & The Family Stone in 1968. The song off the legendary San Francisco-based band’s Stand! album was their first single to go to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Jeff Tweedy himself took the mic for the ensuing cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Effigy.” CCR was formed in the San Francisco suburb of El Cerrito, California, in 1959. “Effigy” was featured on the group’s 1969 album, Willy And The Poor Boys.
The setlist for the rest of the show was heavy on songs from Tweedy’s 2025 triple album Twilight Overdrive. Jeff Tweedy also worked in cuts from his short-lived Tweedy project and past solo albums Love Is The King, WARM and Warmer.
