Instrumental Phish tribute act Jazz Is Phsh will soon embark on a West Coast-focused tour. Jazz Is Phsh will be joined by guests at each show and has unveiled a professionally-shot video featuring their version of “Bathtub Gin” for a taste of what to expect.
The group was founded by The Chase Brothers, Adam Chase and Matthew Chase, and employs a rotating cast of musicians. Jazz Is Phsh aims to interpret Phish’s music with a focus on the jazz-fusion aspects of the quartet’s largely improvised and highly composed songs. Before the group heads west, Jazz Is Phsh will be joined by Chris Bullock of Snarky Puppy at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta on November 2 and at the 1904 Music Hall in Jacksonville on November 5.
Jazz Is Phsh begins the West Coast Tour at The Mint L.A. in Los Angeles on November 16 with special guest Marcus Rezak of Katharsis. Next up is a visit to Mezzanine in San Francisco on November 17 featuring Electric Beethoven/Billy & The Kids bassist Reed Mathis. Jazz Is Phsh is just part of a bill at Mezzanine that also includes pianist Holly Bowling and an all-star The James Brown Dance Party with Jennifer Hartswick, Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz, Farnell Newton, Will Blades, Chris Rob, Bullock, The Chase Brothers and more. Bullock will also be Jazz Is Phsh’s guest in Seattle on November 18 and Portland, Oregon on November 19.
The Phish tribute act embarks on a Northeast run between November 30 and December 9. Felix Pastorius of Jeff Coffin’s Mu’tet will guest in Washington D.C. on November 30, Rochester on December 1, Buffalo on December 2 and Toronto on December 3. Carl “Geerz” Gerhard of The Giant Country Horns augments Jazz Is Phsh in Philadelphia on December 7, Baltimore on December 8, Roanoke on December 9 and in New York City on December 30.
