Last September guitarist/vocalist Tim Bluhm of The Mother Hips suffered a speed flying accident that left him severely injured. It forced the band to cancel several shows and Bluhm’s continued recovery has resulted in mounting medical bills. Photographer Jay Blakesberg has established a GoFundMe Page to help with the cost of Tim’s ongoing treatment.
Here’s how the Tim Bluhm Medical Expense Relief GoFundMe Page explains Bluhm’s situation:
Last September Tim was in a horrible speed flying accident. It was quite gruesome. He snapped his left ankle completely in half while landing feet first at 35 MPH into a pile of cut down trees! He spun around and hit his right hip shattering that part of his body. Life changed for him in an instant. Tim has insurance, but as we know, that doesn’t begin to cover all his medical expenses. After 5 surgeries, and with at least 2 more to go including what will most likely be a full ankle fusion, Tim is currently in debt with medical expenses close to $50,000 and this number continues to rise. His pain has been excruciating, and multiple bone infections have kept him on heavy doses of antibiotics that are NOT covered by insurance.
In November of last year, Bluhm was able to make a return to the stage with Scott Law at Terrapin Crossroads. Earlier this month, Tim shared a tweet that he was “in [a] recording session” with renowned musician Peter Rowan. Tim and The Hips hit the stage together this Friday, February 26 at Moe’s Alley in Santa Cruz, California.
