Jacob Collier surprise-released a live covers album today, Piano Ballads – Live From The Djesse World Tour 2022. The compilation sees the English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist on songs from The Beatles, Queen, James Taylor and more.

During the North American and European legs of his 2022 Djesse World Tour — around his Grammy-winning series of Djesse studio LPs — Collier would take time midway through his concert to sit at his piano and perform a cover solo. The nods to artists like The Beatles, James Taylor, Elvis Presley, the Bee Gees, ABBA and more marked the first time Collier had performed the songs in public and were highly improvisational as well as collaborative with the audience

“Ever since I can remember, I have derived a vast amount of comfort and joy from sitting at the piano and improvising,” Collier said in a press release. “I have long dreamed of sharing an album that lives in that world. This year, I set myself the challenge of playing a spontaneous rendition of a different song every night on tour – with the help of my extraordinary musical audience. These 11 are amongst my favourite postcards. I’m so excited to share them with you all!”
