Jack White & The Black Crowes’ Chris Robinson Cover Free In Chicago

A black-and-white collaboration took place at Jack White’s concert in Chicago on Thursday night. The White Stripes co-founder was joined by The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson on a cover of a classic rock song by Free.

White is touring in support of his recently released album, Frozen Charlotte. The guitarist’s backing band comprises keyboardist Bobby Emmett, bassist Dominic Davis and drummer Patrick Keeler.

White worked several tracks from Frozen Charlotte into Thursday’s setlist, “Dollar Bill” and “G.O.D. and the Broken Ribs” appearing during the main set and “Derecho Demonico” and “There’s Nobody There” arriving as part of the extended encore. Those were performed alongside other solo cuts, The White Stripes songs and “Broken Boy Soldier” by The Raconteurs.

Robinson is on tour with The Black Crowes, who will perform in the Chicago area tonight, Friday, July 24, as part of their run of shows with Whiskey Myers. Robinson spent part of his day off Thursday attending White’s concert at Radius, and came out in the middle of the set to sing “I’m A Mover” by Free.

Written by Andy Fraser and Paul Rodgers, “I’m A Mover” was released on Free’s 1968 debut album, Tons of Sobs. Watch video footage of Robinson and White performing “I’m A Mover” below:

White partnered with nugs to offer a livestream of his Saturday, July 25 concert at Pine Knob Music Theatre near his hometown of Detroit.
