Interpol returns with a new album, This Mirror Weighs A Ton, on August 28 via new label home Partisan Records. The New York rockers previewed their first album in four years with two songs, the title track and “See Out Loud.”
The new record follows Interpol’s 2022 LP, The Other Side of Make-Believe. Produced by Andrew Wyatt (Rosalía, Charli XCX) with mixing by David Fridmann (Sleater-Kinney, MGMT), the band tracked This Mirror Weighs A Ton at Wyatt’s Manhattan studio on the Lower East Side.
The new album “expands Interpol’s sonic palette with the addition of strings, woodwinds, layered vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar and experimental sound design while maintaining the band’s signature rhythmic and melodic approach,” as per a press release.
This Mirror Weighs A Ton draws its title from frontman Paul Banks‘ stream of conscious writing style. As the title suggests, the album touches on themes of reflection and perception. Interpol introduced the record with its opening cuts, “This Mirror Weighs A Ton” and “See Out Loud.”
The tracks offer a duality of vibes. “This Mirror Weighs A Ton” is an atmospheric voyage while “See Out Loud” boasts a gritty rock sound. Listen to both tracks below and scroll on for the band’s tour dates:
